17 July 2014 - St Margaret's at Cliffe, Kent

Having kindly been granted permission to moth trap in South Foreland Vallay (our regular birding ringing site), John and I ventured out for some noctural investigations.

Although the wind conditions weren't great it was, as ever, exciting to be at a new site - and at one within sight of France... The Four-spotted Footman was a treat - huge great beasts! The (presumed) Bisigna procerella looks to be a nice find for a first trip to a site.

A great visit to survey the moths on this RSPB reserve. Lappet (4) is always a highlight, though enough other interesting stuff to keep me busy...

A return trip to Funton Creek in what seemed liek ideal conditions - only clearly, no-one told the local moth population that conditions were ideal!

Plain Pug, Olive and Lackey were the best of an otherwise slightly dull night.

Went on a recce to some salk-marsh - Crescent Striped was a potential, as was Ground Lackey and several Wainscots... Unfortunately the rain had a big impact on the evening - blowing two of my bulbs...

Despite the bulbs, we managed a few moths of interest. As for target species - we caught several 'may-be' moths that could be Crescent Striped but are, infact, something much more common, just Dark Arches...

2 July 2014 - Orlestone Forest

Went for a walk with torch and net near Ashford - managed to find some visiting moth-ers in action and set up for the night.

Found Clay Fan-foot and Birch Mocha in the short visit.
